Wordless Wednesday: Cover image on The Old Beauty and Others by Willa Cather

Stamped image on the first edition (1948) cloth cover of The Old Beauty and Others by Willa Cather.

WSC stands for Willa Sibert Cather, but what is the meaning behind the imagery?

  1. A hat? Wheat sheaves? The design reminds me of tole painting, actually.

    1. Tole...never knew that style had a name. Thanks, Lynn! If I find out more about this image I'll be sure to post about it.

    2. My mom did a lot of tole painting in the late 70s, that's the only reason I know anything about it!
